On Monday, October 13, 2014, CHANEL hosted a star-studded dinner to celebrate the debut screening of N°5 The Film entitled "The One That I Want," written and directed by Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby). The Film's leading lady, Gisele Bündchen, was joined by Luhrmann, Karl Lagerfeld, and Oscar-winning production designer Catherine Martin for caviar, lamb and petit fours while viewing The Film, followed by a performance from Lo Fang, which included his cover "You're the One that I Want" from The Film.
According to the iconic fashion and fragrance house, The Film tells the story of a woman who struggles to find space for everything - herself, family, career, and love. Through Luhrmann's eyes, the present-day N°5 woman is free to make her own choices; whereas ten years ago (flashback to Nicole Kidman's N°5 fragrance spot), the N°5 woman was seen deciding to break free from it all, and then return to reality, renouncing her desire.
A brief history lesson (for those of you looking to expand your luxury fragrance horizons): Chanel N°5 is the world's most famous fragrance. Concocted in 1921 when Coco Chanel asked the great perfumer, Ernest Beaux, to create a fragrance that reflected her vision of modern femininity, the now-prized eau de parfum was the fifth submission presented to Mademoiselle Chanel (hence the name, N°5).
